A woman from Winter Haven, Florida, was arrested and charged after she allegedly left her infant at home for nearly five hours to go to a hookah bar, leading to the child’s death.
Jada LeBouf was charged with aggravated manslaughter after she left home around 12:45 a.m. to go to a hookah bar in Orlando. She left her baby alone on the couch because she didn’t want to wake up her mother, aunt or grandparents, whom she lived with. She didn’t tell anyone she was leaving and failed to have anyone check on the child.
When the 19-year-old arrived home around 5:30 a.m., she discovered the baby on the couch, tangled in a blanket. The 8-month-old girl was unresponsive and ultimately died from suffocation.
“This terrible tragedy was 100 percent preventable,” Sheriff Grady Judd told WTVT. “It is beyond comprehension how a mother could leave her child alone for five hours. That beautiful little baby girl should be alive today.”
Many readers supported the mother’s arrest, saying she should have been more responsible with her child.
